What is Yoga?
Yoga’s literal definition is “yoke” or “unity,” which means whole. It is a way of connecting the body, mind, and breath, and finding self-awareness. Yoga is a spiritual practice. However, you do not need to be religious in order to practice yoga. It is a journey of self-discovery to improve your overall well-being.

What is meditation?
Meditation involves sitting quietly for a set amount of time, while focusing your attention on your breath, bodily sensations, or the sounds around you. Meditation is not about emptying your mind. It is about recognizing your thought patterns and how you can control your reaction to your thoughts.

Yoga and meditation can work closely together. A regular yoga practice can bring more strength and flexibility into the body, which can help sit comfortably in meditation for longer periods. Similarly, a regular meditation practice can help to bring more clarity and compassion into all areas of life.

Bio

Through layers of mark-making, colors, and textures, Vidya Shyamsundar paints mandalas inspired by the centuries-old South Indian meditative art called K?lam with distinct intricacy, precision, and symmetry. Painting a mandala gives her a feeling of belonging and identity, a practice that helps her to slow down and find her momentary peace. Through her narratives and intuitive brushstrokes, Vidya lets her creativity unfold by opening and emptying the mind, helping her feel centered and grounded.
